Apple announced its new iPhone lineup at its Cupertino, California, headquarters on Tuesday. The new models include the Apple iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max.

The iPhone 11, a successor to iPhone XR, includes a 6.1-inch display with an almost identical design to its predecessor with some new color options. However, the biggest changes are those in the design of its camera technology.

The iPhone 11 has a dual-camera system & another 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera that supports 2x optical zoom. A new immersive feature lets you see outside the frame, to check on the details of the photos you’re taking with the ultra-wide lens.

New camera features also include high-key mono portrait effect which will also let you take beautiful portrait photos of your pets, & a Night Mode that uses adaptive bracketing to improve shots taken at night

For video, you can tap to switch between the ultra-wide & regular camera, & there’s support for 4K resolution up to 60 fps, slow-mo, time lapse, & a new extended dynamic range across both cameras.

The front facing has also been upgraded to a 12-megapixel TrueDepth wide-angle camera that you can rotate to do landscape shots. It will also do 4K / 60 video that will now allow you to take selfie videos in slow-mo, or “slofies”.

Equipped with Apple’s latest A13 Bionic processor, the new iPhone 11 has the “fastest CPU in a smartphone” & also the “fastest GPU in a smartphone”. It will also have an additional hour of battery life over the iPhone XR, & is water resistant up to 2 meters.

iPhone 11 Pro & iPhone 11 Pro Max

The advanced models feature an improved camera system, with 3 cameras on the back of the phone & a superior battery life. The iPhone 11 Pro (5.8-inch) will last 4 hours longer than the iPhone XS, & the iPhone 11 Pro Max (6.5-inch) will go 5 hours longer than the iPhone XS Max.

Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, called the Pro models, “the most powerful and most advanced iPhones we have ever built, with a stunning design.”

He said the iPhone 11 Pro is designed for customers who want the “most sophisticated technology.” To be available in new colors: green, space gray, silver, & gold, these will have a new matte finish on the back.

The upgraded the display will have a new OLED panel, which goes up to an even brighter 1,200 nits, a 2 million to 1 contrast ratio, & is 15% more energy efficient, with the “toughest glass in a smartphone.”

Both the advanced models will also feature Apple’s A13 Bionic chip with the fastest CPU & GPU ever in a smartphone.

The demo of a new computational photography feature called “Deep Fusion,” showed that the camera in the advanced models shoots 9 images:4 short images, 4 secondary images, & 1 long exposure. It then uses machine learning to combine those images into a single final image that promises added detail.

Apple’s Senior Vice President, Phil Schiller called it “computational photography mad science.” However, it won’t be on the new phones at launch, & that it will come in as a software update later this year.

iPhone 11 is priced starting $699, iPhone 11 Pro will start at $999, & the iPhone 11 Pro Max will start at $1099. Preorders will start Friday, September 13, & will ship a week later on September 20.
