All those apps that benefited when Facebook, WhatsApp went down – News

One man’s problem is another’s profit. Facebook’s downtime on Monday proved to be positive news for rivals. While Facebook’s services did not work for 6 hours Monday, rival apps benefited during the worst outage in years for the social media giant.

According to Sensor Tower data shared with Bloomberg News, Snap Inc saw a 23% increase in time spent on its Android app on Monday. In turn, that led to an increase in activity on apps such as Telegram & Signal, as well as Twitter Inc & ByteDance Ltd.’s TikTok on Oct. 4, according to the mobile researcher.

Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram, has already gone on record to say his app had added 70 million users & set new records for registrations & activity on Monday. During Facebook’s downtime, this app jumped to the top of the App Store as the most-downloaded free app in 40 countries, while Signal ranked no. 1 in Poland & ranked in the top 10 in 35 countries, Sensor Tower said.  

Various Facebook services, including Messenger, WhatsApp, and Instagram, were unavailable for over 6 hours on Monday.
