Re-designed Twitter: what’s under the hood – e-Why, What & How

After months of extensive testing for selected users, the new look Twitter is now ready for everyone. So what does the Twitter re-design mean for members?

The renowned micro-blogging platform got a complete makeover that is intended to not only make it look better, but also be a lot more customizable & easier to navigate. Which basically means members will have more control now on its look & feel.

Twitter began testing the new interface back in January this year with continual tweaks to the design based on feedback received from users who tested the new Twitter. The Twitter re-design may not be a complete overhaul, there are some significant changes & “cool” new features.

The new twitter.com homepage is now a lot more pleasing to the eye than it used to be. The re-design also accentuates some of the best features making them a lot easier to access. Users will now have greater control over what their Home Page looks like.

Perhaps the most significant change is the new, improved sidebar which previously displayed top trends for you & who follow. These have now been replaced by some new top-level menu items like notifications, messages, lists, profiles, & bookmarks.

There is also an explore tab which will make it easier to access new Content like ‘live’ videos & local moments specifically personalized for you. While this has been on the mobile app version of Twitter for a long time, it just recently made its way to the web version. Users will also find it easier to navigate DMs now that conversations & sent messages are visible in the same window.

Other customization options include control over themes & color of your twitter homepage.

There is also the choice of a new light & dark modes depending on your preference.

While it will take a while to get fully adjusted to new Twitter.com, most people especially desktop users will admit that it definitely looks & even performs a lot better with all these improvements.

Those who do not like the new design will have to get used to it since there will be no old Twitter to revert to this time, unlike previous changes that have always left the option of returning to the legacy design.

Twitter has also promised to build on these improvements. Hopefully, we will see the addition of more cool feature in coming days like the much-needed edit button everyone has been asking for.
