Weird, but true. Not many know that almost a decade after its birth, micro-blog Twitter did not have an official WordPress (WP) plugin. That’s right. Until today, that is.
Twitter has finally launched an official plugin for that platform. The announcement was posted on the official Twitter blog. It said: Today, we’re releasing an official Twitter plugin for WordPress that bundles Twitter features and functionality into an installable package for sites powered by WordPress.
“WordPress software powers millions of sites around the web from large global brands such as Katy Perry and Mercedes-Benz to your local grocery store. The official Twitter plugin for WordPress helps sites powered by WordPress embed Twitter content and grow their audience on Twitter.”
The official Twitter plugin for WP optimizes a Website for a Twitter audience through easy to use sharing buttons, embedded Tweets, auto-generated markup indexed by Twitter, & ‘Follow’ buttons to help grow the Twitter audience.
The official Twitter plugin comes bundled with Twitter functionalities & features. It includes, for example, Twitter Cards. According to Twitter, “Twitter Cards help your content stand out on Twitter by providing additional rich context before users click. Our plugin automatically generates Twitter Cards for your webpages to highlight your content shared on Twitter.
“With Twitter Analytics, you can also associate your site and author Twitter accounts to track your content’s popularity on Twitter and grow your audience.”

Since there is unique Content every day on Twitter, the new plugin for WP makes it easy to include an embedded Tweet on a Website that matches the Site design. Choose a widget theme, link color & border color from the WordPress administrative dashboard to visually integrate Tweets into Webpages & articles. Twitter has also included support for video embeds to highlight Twitter video Content.
There’s also a Tweet button in this official Twitter plugin. Users may add a Tweet button to their posts from the WP administrative interface, which will make it easy for Twitter users to share your Content with their followers.
The plugin automatically configures the Tweet button to include the URL of the post, site & author Twitter accounts, custom share text & hashtags specific to each post.
