“T2” plans to be the new Twitter – Startups

T2 is a Twitter-like platform started by Gabor Cselle, a former Google & Twitter employee. His aim, in the wake of the Elon Musk takeover of Twitter, is to provide a service as close as possible to the original Twitter with a few elevating changes.

Gabor has been joined by Sarah Oh & Michael Greer, both of whom have some solid experience in the field of social media. The team has raised US $1.1 million from Bradley Horowitz, Michael Stoppelman, Darian Shirazi & 16 other investors.

Currently, the team behind the idea is testing the platform with the help of a small group of users. The credentials to use the system are on an invite-only basis, but interested parties can join the T2 waitlist so that they’ll be informed when the site goes into production mode.

One unique aspect of the development of T2 is that the alpha version of the site is “live” Online so that anyone can visit the URL & access it. Potential users are invited to give their views on aspects such as layout & formatting, which might then be employed by the engineers.

T2’s mission statement is that they’re building “an elegant, sustainable, & hospitable place”.

The look & feel of the Site is very much Twitter-styled, but whereas Twitter only allows 140 characters, T2 allows 280. The platform allows users to post videos, images & text-based posts in much the same way as Twitter does. Also, there is no plan to make people or businesses pay for the service, which is one of the current sore points with Twitter. T2 makes no bones about the fact that they’re actively trying to replace Twitter & they’re recruiting users directly from the social media giant.

Gabor has revealed in various interviews across the Net that the wait list is already 10,000 users strong. There seems to be a crowd of people looking for an alternative to Twitter, due mostly to the changes Elon Musk has put in place. However, there are many other options for users to try, such as Mastodon (a German-based network of sites run by communities) & Liketu, a very busy Twitter clone that gives users real (dollar-valued) rewards for posting their Content.
