Great Chinese purge: Over 60,000 fake social media accounts deleted

At the start of this month, Chinese authorities had launched a crackdown against those using fake names or aliases on social media networks. Now comes the news that the drive had led to the deletion of at least 60,000 fake social media accounts in that country, according to some Online reports. Some fake names that were being used included Barack Obama & the likes. New regulations are to come in from March 1 this year to be implemented by China’s State Internet Information Office, following which Chinese social media networks such as Sina Weibo had purged their membership lists of such fake accounts.
