FDA Approves Neuralink for Human Brain-Computer Interface Trials – AI

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted authorization to Neuralink, a company founded by Elon Musk, to commence human trials in the domain of brain-computer interface (BCI) technology. This pioneering technology involves the implantation of a minuscule chip into the brain, enabling the reading and interpretation of neural signals.

Neuralink, established in 2016, is dedicated to advancing the treatment of brain diseases and ultimately exploring the frontiers of human enhancement and augmentation. The latter concept envisions biological implants that could potentially enhance physical and cognitive capabilities. Neuralink’s journey in this field has involved conducting trials on animals, including monkeys and pigs, commencing as early as 2018. With the FDA’s green light, Neuralink is now poised to take the next significant step in unlocking the potential of BCI technology in humans.
