Elon climbs down a bit from his “no API” policy – News

Elon Musk has said that Twitter will grant free access to the Twitter API to bots who produce “excellent content.”

Musk indicated in a tweet that the platform will make a “light, write-only” API available to approved bots, which is a partial reversal of his policy that places API access behind a barrier.

Twitter revealed last week that beginning on February 9, developers will have to sign up for a “paid basic tier” in order to use the Twitter API after shutting down 3rd-party applications like Tweetbot & Twitterrific. At the time, Musk defended the decision by claiming that bot spammers & scammers were “abusing” the free API, & that a membership costing about $100 per month “with ID verification” could “clean things up tremendously.”
