Google is the newest corporate giant to invest in the field of generative AI after investing almost $300 million in the artificial intelligence (AI) startup “Anthropic”. As part of the deal, Google will own a 10% interest in the startup & contribute computer power from its Cloud computing unit.
The action underlines the growing impact of huge tech firms in the AI sector, as these firms require access to Cloud computing platforms in order to manage complex AI models. This investment follows in the footsteps of Microsoft’s $1 billion cash-for-computing investment in OpenAI three years ago, which resulted in the development of ChatGPT, a cutting-edge chatbot.
Both OpenAI & Anthropic are engaged in generative AI research, which entails building computer programs that can write code & produce artwork in a matter of seconds.
