Digitize & translate on-the-go with ABBYY TextGrabber + Translator

textgrabberAs the world is going paperless, it is becoming a day to day concern for us to digitize printed documents. Well, digital scanning is a handy bet, but what if you want to use a scanned document as the 1 written digitally? Writing it all the way again does not make sense, isn’t it? ABBYY knows this & that’s why to quickly fulfilling all your scanning & OCR (Optical Character Recognition) needs, it offers ABBYY TextGrabber + Translator.

It is an upgrade of the previous ABBYY FineReader Touch, in a sense that the new ABBYY TextGrabber + Translator does not require an Internet connection for scanning & OCR functions.

Once you install the app, it will prompt you to take a snap of a part of the document that you want to scan & OCR. It can be a book, magazine, ad, copy or a simple document – anything that has printed script on it with a specific, human-defined language. At the time of taking a snap, you can also choose the language of the printed document. The app has English as a default language, but it supports other 60 languages. Once you click the image of the document, you can press the ‘Read’ button which will allow the inbuilt OCR technology to recognize the script & create its digital version, which will be stored in a ‘History’ folder for future backup and editing – up to this, you do not need an internet connection! Once digitized, the copy can be translated into 90 different languages, for which you will need an internet, though. The final digital piece can be shared through an SMS, email, Facebook, Twitter & Evernote.

The interesting part about the app is its user-friendly interface & features: The text can be edited or copied to the clipboard. You can use a flashlight option to provide additional light for capturing the image. With cropping option, you can just focus on the part which you want to scan & OCR. Font size can be adjusted. The sound tips make it easy-to-operate for the visually impaired people. The iOS users can also use voice-over text-to-speech to listen to the recognized & translated text. Above all, it helps you finish your tasks in a jiffy.

The app is freely available for iOS & Android, with certain in-app purchase options. The app was last updated in June 2016. The developer of this app is ABBYY Group, which is headquartered in the US & operates in the area of Artificial Intelligence-based solutions & technologies for last 25 years.
