The BBC is shifting more of its football coverage onto digital channels and into fan-focused formats while bolstering Match of the Day’s on-screen expertise.

BBC Sport said it will house four new shows on its Football YouTube channel, FANS², The Truth About Football, Golden Goal and Football Hub, and add former players Toby Alderweireld, Robbie Keane and Ashley Young plus ex-Tottenham manager Thomas Frank to the pundit roster.

There will be a stronger fan presence too. A BBC Sport Fan Collective will bring together supporters representing all 20 Premier League clubs, part of an editorial push the broadcaster describes as placing “fans even more firmly at the heart of the game.”

On the live side, BBC Radio 5 Live will provide commentary for 209 Premier League matches this season, and the BBC will show two FA Cup matches from each round and one Bundesliga match each week on BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website and app. Highlights and clips will be available from La Liga, Serie A, the Europa League and the home nations’ internationals.

Kelly Somers’ The Football Interview will continue on BBC iPlayer, the BBC Football YouTube channel and the BBC Sport website and app, and will air on BBC One every Saturday from 12:45 BST.

Regional arrangements remain substantial: viewers in Scotland can watch all Scotland men’s internationals live and selected Scottish Cup fixtures, with radio coverage on BBC Radio Scotland’s Sportsound. Selected Cymru Premier fixtures will appear on BBC iPlayer and Wales men’s internationals will be available across BBC Wales TV and radio platforms. BBC Sport NI has signed a new three-year agreement with the Irish FA and the Northern Ireland Football League that secures every Northern Ireland senior men’s international until June 2028.

This is a practical reshuffle: more live matches and ancillary programming spread across free digital outlets, and a visible attempt to fold supporters’ perspectives into the BBC’s editorial output. As BBC director of sport Alex Kay-Jelski put it, “Football means something different to every fan, and this season BBC Sport is putting those fans even more firmly at the heart of the game.”
