“Threads” Amasses 100 mln Signups – News

Threads, Instagram’s text-based application and competitor to Twitter, has accomplished a remarkable feat by amassing 100 million signups in a mere five days.

Launched on June 6, the app has experienced tremendous success in a short span of time. Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, expressed his astonishment at this achievement, admitting his difficulty in comprehending the fact that such a large number of individuals have embraced Threads. He commended his team’s dedication and acknowledged that there is still work to be done in order to enhance the app’s overall quality.

On its inaugural day, Threads attracted an impressive 2 million signups in a mere two hours. Within four hours, that number grew to 5 million, and within seven hours, it soared to 10 million registered users. The following day, Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta (Instagram’s parent company), announced that over 30 million people had signed up to explore the new app. This rapid growth is particularly noteworthy considering that Threads has yet to be launched in the European Union due to privacy concerns.

Threads’ growth rate is particularly striking when compared to OpenAI’s ChatGPT bot, which was previously one of the fastest-growing consumer products. ChatGPT achieved 10 million daily users in 40 days and 100 million monthly users in almost two months. In contrast, Threads has already surpassed 100 million monthly active users within its first month. However, the true challenge lies in retaining these users on the platform, as there are still some missing features that need to be addressed.
