Telegram was the most downloaded non-gaming app worldwide for January 2021, followed by TikTok, according to a freshly released report by Sensor Tower.
Telegram had over 63 million installs, which was 3.8 times its downloads in January 2020. The countries with the largest number of Telegram installs were India at 24%, followed by Indonesia at 10%. App download estimates are from Sensor Tower’s Store Intelligence platform.
TikTok was 2nd in this category with close to 62 million installs. The countries with the largest number of TikTok installs were from Douyin in China at 17%, followed by the US at 10%. Signal, Facebook, & WhatsApp rounded out the top 5 most installed non-gaming apps worldwide for the month.

The Jan 2021 estimates include downloads for the App Store & Google Play worldwide between January 1 & 31, 2021. Apple apps & Google pre-installed apps are excluded.
