Spotify’s Anchor makes it easy to create podcasts – Profile

Traditionally, podcasts have been made in recording studios, but apps & software tools have replaced this tradition in the recent past.

However, professional creators, for instance, like talk show hosts, still rely on professional studio environments to record their shows. Unfortunately, due to the social distancing requirements created by the pandemic, studio recording is not a safe option. Anchor, a podcasting app acquired by Spotify in 2019, seeing the need for remote tools has introduced a number of updates to their app to cater to this demand.

Earlier this year Anchor introduced a browser-based, remote recording tool, which gives creators the option to invite remote participants to a podcast recording, even if they don’t have an Anchor account.

Creators simply create a link to their “show” & share it with would be participants by invitation. Obviously, this innovation goes a long way to solving the need for remote recording.

More recently, Anchor introduced a video-audio extraction tool that turns video chats, such as those recorded using Zoom or Microsoft’s Teams, into audio-only podcasts.

This tool extracts audio from any video uploaded in .mov or .mp4 format, so although it’s relatively simple to create Content from raw video, other recordings, such as those recorded on Skype, might be more difficult to download & use.

Anchor has established a knowledge-base that creators can refer to, which gives instructions on how to download video, in the correct format, from various services. However, many services require a paid account before allowing downloads. Also, YouTube does not offer a direct tool for downloading content, so you need to have the raw file you’ve uploaded to use with Anchor.

These new tools rest on Anchor’s well established service which allows creators to make & edit audio files using their tools. They also offer a vast library of sound effects & background music to creators.

Hosting for podcasts is also available, & users are given their own profile page on which they can offer their collective content & share it with the world. The service integrates with many distribution tools, such as Spotify, & users can gauge performance using in-built analytical stats.
