Elon Musk announces limitations on tweets users can read – News

Due to a prolonged outage disrupting users’ access to new posts on Twitter, the platform has introduced limitations on the number of tweets users can read.

Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, announced these revised usage quotas in a tweet. Verified account holders can now read up to 6,000 posts per day, while unverified users have a significantly reduced limit of 600 posts. Newly registered and unverified users face even stricter restrictions, with only 300 posts allowed daily. However, these limits have recently been increased to 10,000, 1,000, and 500, respectively.

Musk explained that Twitter is currently dealing with “extreme levels of data scraping” from multiple organizations and instances of system manipulation. To address these issues, he believes it is necessary to implement these constraints. However, Musk did not disclose the identity of the parties involved in scraping Twitter’s data or the duration of the problem. He has previously expressed concerns about data scraping and indicated his intention to take action against those responsible.

Interestingly, Twitter’s main challenge in this situation appears to be a bug within its web app. This bug has resulted in a continuous loop of requests being sent to Twitter, causing tens of thousands of users to report that their feeds are not being updated with new tweets. Instead, they receive an “exceeded rate limit” error message. This technical glitch is not the first problem Twitter has encountered recently, and the platform has employed unconventional solutions to maintain stability. Just this week, Twitter restricted access to its platform for users who are not logged into an account.
