PC shipments drop but Mac sales drop even more – News

The International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Personal Computing Device Tracker has reported that traditional PC shipments during the first quarter of 2023 (1Q23) plummeted by 29.0% compared to the same period in 2022, totaling 56.9 million global shipments.

The decline in shipments is attributed to weak demand, excess inventory, & a deteriorating macroeconomic climate. These preliminary results mark a return to pre-COVID-19 patterns, with shipment volumes in 1Q23 falling below the figures recorded in 1Q19 and 1Q18.

IDC’s Mobility & Consumer Device Trackers Research Manager, Jitesh Ubrani, commented that despite recent inventory depletion, levels remain high & may persist into the middle or even the 3rd quarter of the year, despite the heavy discounting efforts of channels & PC makers.
