New project will help you understand “real” consequences of tech – News

Vox with Recode is launching a new multi-platform journalism project dubbed “Open Sourced“, aimed at unraveling the good, bad, & the complicated aspects of technology & its consequences on our life as humans.

There is no doubt that everything around us has become plugged in one way or the other. Technology has undoubtedly been making life more convenient in various ways with several groundbreaking innovations that are constantly transforming how we move around, communicate, get entertained, receive health care, & so on. However, while tech has been transforming the world, there is growing concern about the wheels and gears on which the tech platforms run.

With growing consciousnesses of the potential dangers of various tech tools & platforms, there is a nagging question in the mind of users about the things that are going on behind the scenes. This is what Open Sourced hopes to help unravel – to demystify tech (both present & future) & break down its implications in the simplest terms possible.

As technology becomes more embedded in our daily lives, the reaction to it has been widely mixed mostly due to misinformation or limited information about its real consequences. Privacy has become a major concern in recent years, but very few people still understand what they are signing up since privacy policies are still written in complicated tech lingo.

Recode’s new multi platform project, supported by the Omidyar Network, will expose & thoroughly explain the hidden consequences of tech using written stories, explainer videos, & other tools. The goal is to make it easy for non-tech savvy minds to understand controversial & misunderstood terms & concepts like artificial intelligence, data privacy, personal data, cookies, & more.

Open Sourced hopes to help uncover what behemoth tech corporations like Google, Facebook & Amazon are doing with data & its possible implications. This will not only help to reduce all the hype & fear but a better understanding will also empower users to demand more from tech companies & improve regulation & accountability.

Open Sourced is an email community. You can subscribe to stay up to date as Recode unravels these deep tech secrets. Subscribers can also help the reporting network by sending in their biggest questions about technology & how it has been affecting their lives. You may not get all the answers you need but Open Sourced promises a better understanding of how these things work.
