Netflix to reportedly get into offering video games – Digital lifestyle


It’s perhaps the 1st ever move by OTT platform Netflix to move beyond movies & TV shows, & is reportedly planning an expansion into video games, & has hired a former Electronic Arts Inc. & Facebook Inc. executive to helm the operation. While the official word is awaited from Netflix, it has confirmed to some Websites of this move.

In fact, news agency Bloomberg quoting a Netflix source reported that the plan was to begin offering games on the platform by 2022. The games will be displayed alongside the current Content, similar to documentaries & stand-up comedy specials, and are likely not to cost extra, they added.

In fact, Netflix has been on an expansion mode. Last month, Netflix had launched  Netflix.shop, a place that it says, “combines curated products & rich storytelling in a uniquely Netflix shopping experience.” This website has reported the development.

Netflix.shop will drop exclusive limited editions of carefully selected high-quality apparel & lifestyle products tied to its shows & brand. This month, for example, the items that will be debuting are streetwear & action figures based on anime series Yasuke & Eden; as well as limited-edition apparel & decorative items  inspired by Lupin in collaboration with the Musée du Louvre. 

If Netflix does come out with this new division around video games, it could prove to be a serious competitor to other video gaming platforms, according to some gaming experts.
