Here’s why France is racing ahead on the social media front – E-Why, What & How

It is no secret that once Europe was in the race with the US for a slice of the social media pie. But then, US raced ahead.

According to this article by Chris O Brien in sifted.eu, creating distinct social experiences that appeal to younger audiences has helped France become a hotbed of social networking apps that have found traction & investment. Most famous is Zenly, the mapping app that is still going strong more than 4 years after being acquired by Snap. Several other apps have recently succeeded, including Yubo, a social video live-streaming app; Powder, a platform for sharing gaming highlights; & BeReal, an app that encourages greater authenticity by limiting posts to once a day. The stars of 2 other apps – Mindie and Yolo – briefly shone before fading. In spite of their successes & failures, the founders have formed bonds by serving as mentors & investors to one another.
