Australian lawmakers will not yield to threats by Google to withdraw search engine from Australia: PM – News


Australia may not be Google’s best market but a proposed law by the Australian Government has the search major on tenterhooks. So much so Google has now threatened to remove its search engine from Australia because of it.

The Australian Govt wants Google to pay royalty to news publishers over news stories that surface in search results. If passed, this could be the world’s 1st such law to make Google & even Facebook + other tech companies to pay media outlets for their news Content.

On Google’s statement of removing its search engine, Australian PM Scott Morrison has said lawmakers would not yield to “threats”.

Australia is introducing a world-first law to make Google, Facebook and potentially other tech companies pay media outlets for their news content.
