Turning a podcast into text has multiple advantages: firstly your podcast becomes accessible to the hearing challenged, secondly it allows you to repurpose your Content into say, a blog post, & additionally it is better for SEO, because Google will be able to peruse the text far more readily than the audio, which means your podcast will be “visible” in search results.
The problem is that tools to transcribe podcasts to text are usually costly. In order to address this problem Georgi Gerganov developed Whisper.cpp, which is a speech-to-text library that is available under the MIT license as open source & free to use. Free Podcast Transcription developed a tool based on Georgi’s library & they’ve released it Online in beta form. The tool is totally free to use & instantly transcribes a variety of sound formats, such as MP3 to text.
The transcription tool is available in a huge range of languages, from English to Chinese. Files are transcribed on device, so no data is sent to a server, which ensures privacy for users. To use the tool, users need to browse to Free Podcast Transcription’s Website & start the process. No registration or login is required, users simply need to select their language from the dropdown form, then click the “Choose Audio” button. Once that is done all that is required is to click the “Transcribe” button & voila, a text transcription is produced for download.
