AI image generator company “Midjourney” has temporarily canceled free trials of its AI art service after a series of AI-generated fake images went viral.
According to the company’s founder David Holz, the reason for this was a combination of extraordinary demand & trial abuse. Holz announced the changes on Discord, which is the platform that Midjourney uses as its default interface.
The San Francisco, US-based company is self-funded, committed to exploring new mediums of thought & expanding the imaginative powers of the human species. The AI art service recently deployed what it calls Midjourney v5, a new update that allows for some incredibly lifelike AI creations. Some of the fake images that were generated include “photos” of Pope Francis wearing a stylish white puffy jacket & former US president Donald Trump decked out in gladiator gear.
Midjourney’s previous free trial required users to create a new Discord account, which is free, & then sign up for the trial. The free trial typically included about 40 image generations.
