“Bluesky” is now available as an “invite-only” iOS app – Digital lifestyle

More beta testers are getting access to Bluesky, the Twitter competitor backed by Jack Dorsey, co-founder & former CEO of Twitter. Although the app is still only accessible through invite (beta), its appearance on the App Store suggests that a general release may be approaching.

The Bluesky project, which is a public benefit company, was originally incubated within Twitter in 2019 when Jack Dorsey served as CEO. The main objective of the project was to develop a social protocol, Authenticated Transfer Protocol (AT), which powers the Twitter-like app, Bluesky.

The Bluesky app has similar features to Twitter, with users creating a handle that is then represented as @username.bsky.social as well as a display name that appears more prominently in bold text. According to app intelligence firm data.ai, the Bluesky iOS app debuted on February 17, 2023 and has somewhere north of 2,000 installs.
