palm phoneAlmost everyone admits that smaller is smarter, that’s the idea behind smartwatches that have the features of mobile phones but are a lot smaller. However, despite their beauty & portability, smartwatches are still limited in their functionality which could be perhaps why Verizon is introducing a new gadget, the Palm phone that it hopes will help achieve the functionality of a smartphone yet remain compact & portable.

This ultra-mobile device is the size of a credit card. It features a 3.3-inch high definition display & is lightweight, weighing just 2.2 ounces (62.5 grams). According to Verizon, the Palm phone isn’t a replacement for your regular smartphone. Instead, it is meant to be used the same way you would a smartwatch device. The Android-based device has to be linked to a Verizon Wireless account for it to work.

The brains behind the project, Dennis Miloseski & Howard Nuk who were both design executives at Samsung said the creation of the device is aimed at creating a category of mobile devices more suited for on-the-go activities. Palm will make a great portable smart companion for a workout session, a weekend getaway, a hike, or something you can take to the concert. It is designed to give you quick and easy access to basic tasks you would do on your mobile such as sending text messages listening to music among others.

But this doesn’t take the smarts out of the phone either. Despite its small size (50.6 × 96.6 × 7.4 millimeters), Palm remains a robust smartphone with all the features in place. It has an LCD display with as much as 445 pixels for every inch. The portable device runs on Android 8.1 operating system & as a Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 processor. It also comes with 3GB of Ram & has a storage space of 32GB.

Palm also spots a 12-megapixel rear-facing camera & an 8-megapixel front-facing one. Both its front & back features a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 which is impact-resistant & an aluminum mid-frame for added durability. You also get 4G LTE, Bluetooth & Wi-Fi connectivity on this device.

Palm supports every app in the Google Play store provided it complies with its Android design specs. The device comes with a gesture pad on its lock screen which makes it possible to access apps a lot faster. It also has a Life-mode which can use to turn off all connectivity while the device is in sleep mode which disallows app notifications for coming in. This inherently prolongs battery life giving it as much as much as 24 hrs. battery life in Life mode & 8 hours or typical use.

Palms which is made by Palms Ventures Group in partnership with other notable partners like TCL & NBA star Stephen Curry is set to start shipping by November & will be sold at US $349 or US $299 with a 2-year Verizon contract.
