New users on TikTok might find the platform a little hard to make sense of. That’s because there is a lot going on.
The social network, which has become one of the most popular ones among young people, combines elements of Apps like Spotify, Snapchat, & Twitch into a single platform. This might make it all seem overwhelming at first.
Here is a simple guide on how to use Tik Tok:
Setting up your account
Step 1-Download the app: You can download the TikTok App free of charge on your device’s designated store. Install the App on your device to get started.
Step 2 – Register your account: You can use your phone number, email address to register. It is also possible to sign-up through other platforms like Facebook as well.
Step 3-Personalize your account: You can personalize the generic username assigned to you & edit the rest of your profile as well. You will also be able to change your privacy settings to determine who sees the videos you post.
Watching TikToks
Videos on TikTok are called “TikToks”. You will be able to view TikToks right away on your feeds page. The first feeds page is a stream of videos automatically generated by an algorithm. There is also a secondary feeds page which shows videos uploaded by the people you follow. You can like the videos you view, post comments or share the videos to others on the platform. You can also copy the link to a TikTok & share on other platforms.
Also, there is a spinning record icon on every TikTok, this is one of the fun features of this App. Clicking this icon displays the name of the track playing in the video & the artists that sang it. You will also be able to see other TikToks that have featured the same song on the platform.
Making you own TikToks
Here’s another way on how to use TikTok. To share your own TikTok, look for a + sign at the bottom of your screen. Click this button to open the camera. You will find a red button similar to the Snapchat record button on the screen. This isn’t the only similarity TikTok bears with Snapchat. Just like the latter, you can add some AR effects to your videos like changing the color of your eyes, or hair among other cool effects.
When it comes to adding a song to lip-sync or dance to, you have two options. You can add a song before you begin recording or record first & add the music track later. Filters can also be added to your videos & you can set a timer to allow hands-free recording. Each TikTok can only last for 15 minutes but you can string multiple links to create a 60-seconds recording. There is an option for uploading pre-recorded videos too.
In addition to this basic recording mode, there is a duet mode which allows you to sing the same song as another user on a split screen. Tap the share button on your video & select the duet option to do this.
You will be able to view metrics such as who has seen your videos, & the likes or comments your videos get. You should use hashtags, & participate in challenges to get the most of TikTok.
