Auto maker Ford & search engine Google have decided to team up. By 2023, Ford cars will have the Android OS driving infotainment.
In a post on Medium, David McClelland, Vice President Strategy & Partnerships, Ford Motor Company wrote that Ford & Google were establishing a new collaborative group called “Team Upshift”. This new unit would comprise employees from both companies & will be tasked with driving future innovations.
“We’re going to leverage the talent & assets of both companies to push the boundaries of Ford’s transformation, unlock personalized consumer experiences, & drive disruptive, data-driven opportunities. This may include projects ranging from modernizing our plants through vision AI, developing new retail experiences when buying a vehicle, creating new ownership offers based on connected vehicle data, & more”, said David.
Ford will also use Google Cloud as its “preferred Cloud provider”, which means the auto major will be able to tap into Google’s world-class expertise in data, artificial intelligence & machine learning, in addition to of course, integrating Android & Google services directly into the vehicles.
