Amazon to Introduce Passkey Support – News

Amazon is introducing passkey support, allowing customers to log in using biometrics without passwords.

This feature is available on the Web and iOS, with Android support coming soon. Passkeys aim to replace traditional passwords for easier, more secure authentication across various platforms.

Passkeys use WebAuthn tech, generating a website-stored and a device-stored key for identity verification. Lost devices can often recover passkeys via backup methods.

Apple, Google, 1Password, Dashlane, and other services support passkeys for secure authentication.

Built on WebAuthn (or Web Authentication) tech, two different keys are generated when you create a passkey: one stored by the website or service where your account is and a private key stored on the device you use to verify your identity.

Apple’s and Google’s password vaults already support passkeys, and so do password managers like 1Password and Dashlane. 1Password has also created an online directory listing services that allow users to sign in using a passkey.
