Sonova has launched the Phonak EON platform, a new hearing‑aid family that runs on real‑time on‑device artificial intelligence to separate speech from background sound and reduce listening effort. The company presented EON as its third hearing-aid platform built around real-time AI, with a U.S. introduction this week followed by Australia and key European markets, including Germany, France, Italy and Britain, in mid-September, before a broader global roll-out.
The practical change Sonova is pitching is hardware that is smaller and lighter and software it says makes speech noticeably easier to follow, the company claims EON makes speech twice as understandable while lowering listening effort. Sonova did not provide list prices; the company said the range was designed to support the company's premium market positioning at launch and expects adoption among both replacement and new customers. "We expect EON adoption to build quickly among both replacement and new customers," said Oliver Lux, president of EMEA and Latin America.
Sonova frames EON as a next step in a deliberate cadence of rapid product refreshes intended to shorten replacement cycles and bring first‑time users into the market. The firm also says EON embodies a third generation of its proprietary on‑device AI, a claim FT summarised as a third-generation proprietary real-time AI. Sonova was already the first vendor to ship a hearing aid using real‑time AI in 2024, a precedent it is now extending with smaller hardware and updated models of speech separation first to roll out a hearing aid that used real-time AI in 2024.
The immediate milestone is commercial availability in the U.S., then a staggered launch in Australia and major European markets in mid-September, with a wider roll‑out thereafter. For users the promise is clearer speech in a smaller device; for Sonova it is a product bet aimed at lifting premium sales and accelerating upgrade cycles. The test will be whether those claimed speech gains convert into faster replacements and more first‑time buyers.
