A “Text-to-SQL” Web app is born – Startups

Text-to-SQL

Data analytics has “invaded” our lives rapidly. It’s there, everywhere – from finance, health, retail to even journalism. But not everybody can be a data scientist or analyst. So what do you do?

That’s the pain point this new Web app “Kiko” plans to resolve. Kiko says it is “the first Web app” that allows you to ask your data questions in plain English. Which essentially involves Text-to-SQL method, where the input is given in a human language such as English, & the output is in data.

Currently, Kiko is in beta, & getting access is by invitation only. The developer says it could be a bit buggy, so before final release, wants them sorted out.

Here’s what happens with Kiko. After uploading your data, Kiko is able to translate your plain English queries in less than1 second.

So Why Text-To-SQL Kiko?

According to its maker, everybody wants to be data-oriented: executives, data analysts, etc. However, learning Excel and/or SQL syntax can be extremely frustrating, even for professional data scientists. This is where Kiko steps in. Kiko serves as the “Google Translate for Data Analysis”, he claims. You’re free to ask your data any questions you have, & receive instant results, without writing a single line of code.

Here’s How It Works

Using machine learning, Kiko has learned how to translate English questions into proper SQL queries, which are then run against a dataset to produce the corresponding answer.

How Was Kiko Built?

It’s developer says Kiko’s machine learning model was trained on a dataset of over 10k questions & 5k SQL queries across 200 databases. Text-to-SQL has been an increasingly popular field of research, & Kiko will leverage the latest techniques in industry as they are developed.
