Are you tired of reading messy Content on the Web & on your mobile? You wish there was an API specifically to grab & capture, to parse sympathetically & intelligently? The folks over at NY-based Instapaper, a popular read-it-later service, have come up with the Instaparser, an API which does just that. So if you are a developer, give the newly-minted API a shot.
Parsing is a useful trick, specially for mobile UX. With this new API, app developers use the parsing tools so that you can have quick browsing optimized for your mobile device. A reviewer praised Instaparser’s cheap & cheerful documentation & serviceability. It also supports YouTube & Vimeo videos. Developers at the company are proud of the fact that the parser does a nifty job parsing images on a Website. It supports modern Web image attributes like “srcset.” It locates body images to create covers for the texts; all this ensures that your Instapaper reading experience is optimal.
The developers found that with the introduction of Instaparser, their parsing is now 5 times faster than the parsing mechanism used earlier. This means that the speed with which you can download & read articles off the web has spiked northwards.
The Instaparser offers 3 APIs for now, with more scheduled to come in the following months:
- The Article API parses body text, images, & videos in the Content.
- The Text API extracts just the body text of the page. This is useful for natural language processing, sentiment analysis, & other text-based analysis.
- The Document API offers to upload your HTML directly to parse Content that isn’t publicly viewable or is behind a paywall.
