With ‘Small Victories’ you can create & maintain a Site from Dropbox – #Startup

website developerThe Small Victories platform lets you take the files in a Dropbox folder & turn them into a working Website. That’s right. It comes with a bunch of interesting predefined themes for the most commonly used types of Websites & doesn’t require coding, making the whole Web development process easy & fast.

In fact, it’s so simple to get a Site up & running that you don’t need to install anything, you can do without a Content Management Server (CMS), no Web server & no coding is required.  You start by just putting together a bunch of files: images, text, video/audio, HTML, bookmarks… Then you connect your Dropbox account; pick a name & a theme for your new website. A new folder is then created in your Dropbox named ‘Small Victories’, with a folder inside for your Site, where Dropbox will automatically stick these files.

You can then open your new Site in a browser & go ahead & customize it, choosing among the included themes for common types of Websites, & by using JavaScript or CSS files which you include in the Site’s folder. The Small Victories folder that the platform creates for you comes with sample files so don’t start completely from scratch & you get an idea of how your chosen theme will look.  You can then erase these files & leave only your own, which will be what appears in your Website.

The following are the example themes that are included:

  • Campaign theme
  • Document theme
  • Presentation theme
  • Slideshow theme
  • Feed theme
  • Homepage theme
  • E-commerce theme
  • HTML theme
  • Blank theme

To customize your Site, you can use the _sv_custom.css & _sv_custom.js files that Small Victories creates for you, or tweak them to create your own styles & scripts. The Site comes built in with jQuery & the different themes come with additional JavaScript plugins. It can be password protected by just adding a password to your settings.txt file. There are other conventions that you will need to take into account if you want to further customize your site, like: naming files, ordering files, file types, adding captions to photos, & you can use custom domains, customize your fonts, & even use Google Analytics to help keep track of your Site’s access stats.

You can get started for free with Small Victories by signing up to their beta program. The startup behind the platform is XXIX Studio which is based in Manhattan, NY,USA.
