Want to adopt a startup? Here’s where to look

Seed funding, VC funding, mentorship, crowdfunding….we’ve heard it all. To add to this list, now comes a startup where you can go to to “adopt” other startups.

The Startup Adoption Agency, yup, you heard that right, is meant for those who want to give away their startups to others. At 1st, it’s not exactly clear whether this is for free or fee, as a favor as in crowdsourcing, or simply charity, like in real world adoption cases but when you get to the meat of the stuff, there’s a clause on the Site that reads: Adoption Fee (this can be anything you want – can also accept best offers or adopt for free)

Writes Jeff Morris Jr, founder of the Startup Adoption Agency: If you’re an entrepreneur who is interested in adopting a startup or project on our site, please email startupadoptionagency (at)gmail.com. We will put you in touch with the founder.

There are certain basic rules to be followed:

If you are submitting a startup for adoption, you need to include the following:

1) Brief explanation of your product

2) Any relevant analytics (traffic, traction, etc)

3) A quick note about what type of person you think should adopt the project

4) Technology stack

5) Links to articles or press coverage about your project

6) Social media accounts & anything else that might be relevant

Startup Adoption Agency is styled on the lines of ProductHunt & Hacker News, & visitors to it may even vote for their fav Sites listed for adoption. Besides the ‘Trending’ column, you also have space for ‘Latest’& even space for discussions.

All very good but we wonder whether Jeff has taken care of the legal side of things. Even in the real world, adoption has to be followed up with paperwork. In the case of Startup Adoption Agency, it’s not entirely clear whether “adoption” means a sale or the new “owner” getting some stake in a startup, & how the whole thing will be seen in legal terms.
