US dating app Hinge launches in India

What’s New On The Net had profiled US-located dating app Hinge in 2014. Now it is available in India, launching in its commercial capital Mumbai late last week. Hinge was introduced in the US in 2011. The roll out to other Indian cities is expected soon.

Hinge uses Facebook as the base to find people who are in the extended social network. The app, available for Android & iOS devices, uses social proximity to create matches. Hinge takes that pool of people & curates daily potential connections — based on your behavioral preferences.

The way Hinge works is pretty simple. You sign in with Facebook & set your preferences, including age, sex & location. You may also add your interests or hobbies so that others will know what kind of a person you are.

The mobile dating app will then go to work, using its algorithm for hunting for like-minded people in your Facebook network who match your profile & preferences. It will give you up to seven matches per day – all found from your own network, meaning that they will be friends of friends.

By pulling profile information from social networks like Facebook, Hinge seamlessly displays validated details like education, workplace, mutual friends and other details that can help determine if users are interested in meeting each other.

“We believe in keeping things real,”says the Hinge Website. Considered to be a rival of another dating app, Tinder, & having been born much before it, Hinge claims it helps “you meet real people, through your real friends, in real life. Just like you would at a friend’s house party, dinner or wedding.”

Here’s how it works:
1. All users are real people. Validated profiles with details like workplace & friends in common.
2. A daily delivery of people hand-selected from your own social circles. No randos.
3. Personal introductions to people you’ll actually want to meet up with.

Hinge app is currently available in New York, Los Angeles, Washington DC, London, Toronto, Albany, Atlanta, Austin/San Antonio, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Miami, Minneapolis/St. Paul, among other cities.

Hinge assures its users that it does not post on their Facebook Timeline without permission, neither share user  information with unknown parties.
