In US no more downloads of WeChat, TikTok from Sept 20 – News


From the coming Sunday, US residents will not be able to download the Chinese apps, TikTok & WeChat following an order by the US Govt.

The U.will ban the downloads of the Chinese apps TikTok and WeChat on Sunday, with a total ban on the use of the latter, citing national security and data privacy concerns. A total ban on the use of TikTok will follow on Nov. 12, but Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said early Friday on Fox Business Network that access to that app may be possible if certain safeguards are put into place.

WeChat downloads surge ahead of US ban – The Hill

WeChat’s popularity soared Friday ahead of the Chinese app’s ban in the U.S., with users scrambling to download the app before it is removed from app marketplaces.

The app went from number 1,385 at the start of the morning to within the top 100 apps by noon, a mobile insight strategist with SensorTower told The Hill.
