Twitter changes the way user data was stored in Firefox browser cache – Quick wrap

Twitter has brought in a change wherein the Firefox browser cache will no longer store a user’s personal information.

Announcing it on its blog, Twitter said it had recently learned that the way Mozilla Firefox stored cached data may have resulted in non-public information being inadvertently stored in the browser’s cache.

What that meant was that if a Twitter user accessed Twitter from a shared or public computer via Mozilla Firefox, & took actions like downloading Twitter data archive or send or receive media via Direct Message, the information may have been stored in the browser’s cache even after they logged out of Twitter. This, said Twitter, was because the Mozilla Firefox browser’s cache retention period was set to 7 days & after that time the information should have automatically been removed from the cache.

Apologizing for this, Twitter has advised users to clear the browser cache before logging out.
