Right to forget need not be applied outside Europe: EU court to Google – Quick wrap

A European Union (EU) court has granted major relief to search engine Google when it ruled the latter need not apply the EU ‘right to be forgotten’ requirement globally.

A report in the BBC said the ruling was an outcome of a legal battle between Google & a French privacy regulator.

“Currently, there is no obligation under EU law, for a search engine operator who grants a request for de-referencing made by a data subject… to carry out such a de-referencing on all the versions of its search engine,” the BBC report quoted the European Court of Justice ruling as saying.
