Thought control has always been in the realm of fiction. But Nextmind has made the impossible a reality with their new wearable. Yes, you read that right! Real-time thought control is here…now!

The company led by Sid Kouider has produced a small, lightweight, noninvasive device which can read thoughts and use the impetus to trigger digital reactions.

Innovation

The thought-sensing wearable was first unveiled in November 2019 at Slush, & is a first-of-a-kind innovation that processes thoughts from the brain’s visual cortex into actionable commands, which can be translated by any type of digital device.

In a press release, Kouider sums up the extent of this groundbreaking technology:

“For those who have said it would never be possible with noninvasive technology to communicate intent and implement actions directly from our brain to the world around us, it’s time to believe – because this is real, & the possibilities are truly endless.”

How does it work?

A small round device is worn on a headband over the back of a user’s head, which captures data from the electrical signals created by their neuron activity in the visual cortex, which means that the user must look at the object they want to control — focusing on something & deciding on how to influence it, is all that is required to change its state. Machine learning (ML) algorithms transform the communication from the brain, which control a computer, AR/VR headset or any type of IoT device.
