Enterprise browser “Island” emerges from stealth mode – Startups

new browser Island

There’s a new browser on the block. It was not born overnight but took 2 years to build in stealth mode before the wraps were pulled off. The new browser Island works on the premise that businesses in post-pandemic environments are looking out for a browser that helps balance remote & hybrid workforces. It’s big on cybersecurity, & has productivity features that mainstream alternatives such as Google Chrome & Microsoft Edge do not offer, or so it claims.

On its Website, Island claims to “put the enterprise in complete control of the browser, delivering a level of governance, visibility, & productivity that simply weren’t possible before.” By doing so, the browser will become a centralized hub for protecting the user, data, & network, said the Island team.

Headquartered in Dallas, USA with research & development in Tel Aviv, Island is led by co-founder & CEO Mike Fey, previously president & COO at Symantec & GM & CTO of McAfee; along with co-founder & CTO Dan Amiga, inventor of Web isolation technology & previously founder and CTO of Fireglass.

New browser Island emerges from stealth with a complete senior management & technical team in place, bringing decades of experience in enterprise security from both successfully established cybersecurity firms & startups, as well as deep domain expertise in Chromium research & development.

“The browser is the office where today’s hybrid workforce lives,” said Dan in a press release around the launch. “We have engineered the enterprise browser to be the platform for the future of their work. It begins by redefining how an organization secures its work, but will positively impact endless needs across information technology.”

Some Features Of New Browser Island

Through the use of the Island Enterprise Browser, security teams can fully control last-mile actions from advanced security demands to more basic data exfiltration protections such as copy, paste, download, upload, screenshots & other activities that might expose critical data. This, said the Island team, opened up “unprecedented opportunities” across a growing number of enterprise use cases.

For example, it can stop data leakage, & also provide safe access for contractors & BYOD workers, providing full governance over privileged user accounts. It can also reduce VDI dependency while also supporting built-in safe browsing, Web filtering, Web isolation, exploit prevention, smart network routing, & Zero Trust access.
