Meet “Genei” – a magical AI-powered research assistant – Startups

AI research assistant

Want to know of an AI research assistant? Research, particularly in the scientific disciplines, is hard. Generally, hundreds if not thousands of articles need to be read, analyzed, summarized & incorporated into every report. It’s usually an enormous workload & often requires more than one person to get the job done.

So 3 Oxford University students, Jack Bowen, Adrien Wald & Thomas Foster decided to develop an artificial intelligence (AI) tool to assist researchers in their endeavors & Genei, a smart research assistant was born.

Genei is an AI-powered research tool that provides an “intelligent” workflow for researchers, & helps speed up the exploration, analysis, & comprehension process. Genei provides methods to complete research 10 times faster than normal, & facilitates the production of high quality publishable content. The software offers AI-powered summarization & keyword extraction from PDFs & Web pages & paraphrases ideas, allowing students & researchers to find vital information at “supersonic” speed.

The app is currently available for desktop only, but the team behind Genei is planning to release apps for mobile in the near future. Genei uses the Generative Pre-trained Transformer 3 (GPT-3) natural language processing (NLP) model to perform instant summarization, entity annotation, semantic search, & question answering. The app offers a Cloud based note-taking & annotation tool as well as a Chrome extension to summarize Web pages or save them for later reading. Like it’s namesake, it’s a magical, but modern research assistant tool.

Currently, Genei is only available for English-speaking users, but the developers are planning to extend to other languages in the near future.

The platform offers a 14 day free trial so that users can test the tool before they buy it. There are 2 paid plans available. The basic plan includes summarizing & analysis of PDFs & web pages as well as file storage, note-taking & citation management. It also has export functionality & offers a reference generator. The Pro plan has everything in the basic plan plus a host of advanced  GPT-3 powered text rephrasing, expansion & summarizing tools to produce up to 150 000 characters per month. Genei also has a student plan at a 30% discount.
