From its early uses in the automotive industry, Quick Response (QR) code has been finding its way into new uses in a wide range of fields. But QR codes in restaurants was almost unheard of until this event.

ICHIBUNS, a Japanese restaurant located in China town London, has introduced buns branded with scannable QR codes, according to a recent Evening Standard report. To introduce the move, the diner that specializes in delivering fast food with a fun edge, has partnered with mobile payment app Zapper.

So now, customers who have Zapper app or the restaurant’s IchiPachinko app will be able to scan the code to get information about a burger including its price by simply holding their phones over it. They can also make direct payments after scanning the code.

By branding the QR code directly on the buns, ICHIBUNS is not only whetting our palates but also making a smarter application of QR technology.

If you are wondering what technology tastes like, then bother no more; it tastes just like a burger. At ICHIBUNS, the QR code is currently available for the spicy chicken karaage burger, wagyu beef burger & tempura veggie.
