HTC announces phone capable of running full blockchain node – Digital lifestyle

HTC’s Phil Chen announced the intended launch of a new Blockchain phone called the ‘EXODUS 1s‘, which will act as a lower cost version of its current offering, the EXODUS 1.The new version, which will be available in the 3rd quarter of 2019, will cost less than half the price of its predecessor & be capable of running a full Bitcoin node.

The announcement at the Magical Crypto Conference in New York, US has created a lot of buzz, both in the cryptocurrency community & in the press, because a Blockchain full node, which is more the 200 gigs in size, is a very large chunk of data to carry around on a phone.

However, HTC maintains that the phone will be more than capable of handling a full node via a system called Paring, which will reduce the load to around 10 gigs. Nevertheless, the node will need to be run over WiFi, rather than mobile data, otherwise the costs of syncing to keep the node updated, could be prohibitive.

This is good news for the Bitcoin community since the greater number of decentralized nodes, the stronger the Blockchain becomes, & more people will gain access via the HTC offering. Consumers will be able to send & receive peer-to-peer transactions via HTCs Zion Vault wallet, which they’ve also made available as an SDK for the development community. Other 3rd party wallets are also supported on the EXODUS 1s, so users will be able to maintain their private keys directly on their phones.
