How to customize the Start Menu for Windows 10 – e-Why, What & How

How to customize start menu in Windows

Customizing the menu on Windows 10 can go a long way towards making apps & programs more accessible, especially if they are something that you use regularly.

Tiles on the Windows10 Start Menu can be manipulated to cover more space, or make smaller or larger live tiles, depending on your preference. Once done these elements can be pinned to the Start Menu in a personally pleasing manner.

To start go to the standard Windows 10 menu & select Start > Settings > Personalization > Start. From there choose ‘Show More’ icons which gives you the option to increase the number of programs on display, & levels up the number of icons from 3 to 4.

In order to add a program to the Start Menu, you need to use the Pin To Start command, by selecting the item & then opting for this pin.

Right click on the program, pin to the Start Menu & then resize the icon according to your personal preference.

Some people find “live” tiles particularly appealing, especially for dynamic applications, such as stock market tickers, which give you updates at a glance, others prefer static tiles that must be clicked through to obtain current information. However, whatever your preference, if the app offers “live” tiles, they can be added in the manner outlined above.

In addition to the default options available on your device there are several purpose built apps, which offer assistance in constructing a fancy Start Menu on your machine. Applications such as:

Better Start Menu allow users to to play with in depth customization options, & most offer a free trial so that you can get acquainted with their power, before outlaying your bucks. However, with a little time & patience, you’ll find that there’s a lot you can do with the standard in built options, for example, you can change the background color, & foreground color. Also, it’s fairly simple to categorize your programs & applications according to several options, for example, you can pin your most used apps to a category which clearly defines them, while also pinning each app into an appropriate master category, such as games.

By spending a bit of time & playing around with the Start Menu options you’ll find a plethora of options available which, in the end, will result in a completely custom menu of your device.
