Here’s a step-by-step explanation on how to set up Opera VPN – e-Why, What & How

How to setup Opera VPNSeveral people were left disappointed when Opera announced the shutdown of its VPN program back in 2018. Because of this, users had to turn to other options to get the much-desired privacy & security. But fortunately, it seems Opera now has a change of heart & made a decision to restart its free VPN program. Thankfully it is just as free, functional & unlimited as before.

Opera has begun rolling out this feature in beta mode but it is only available within the full Opera browser & not on Opera Mini. It works just as great as the standalone app which was shut down last year. Opera VPN is in-built into the Opera browser & setting up & using it on your phone is basically the same as using a desktop version.

So here’s how to set up Opera VPN & use it on your device:

Step 1: Visit Google Playstore to download the beta version of the Opera Browser. This is different from Opera mini. Click here to download the browser. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.opera.browser.beta&hl=en_US

Step 2: Install the app on your device

Step 3: Once installation is complete, look for the “O” icon at the bottom right corner of your screen tap this icon & you will be provided with a list of options

Step 4: From the options provided tap “settings.” Here you will see the VPN option with a toggle button in front of it. Click to toggle between “Enabled & Disabled”.

Step 5: You can also click to open the VPN tab where you can change the VPN settings. Here, you can limit the VPN service to only private tabs, select your desired virtual location, or bypass VPN for search engines in order to ensure that you get relevant search results.  You can also view information about how much data has been used & so on.

You do not need to sign in to an Opera account to start using this service. Once enabled, Opera VPN replaces your current IP address with a virtual one which makes it difficult for you to get tracked by when browsing online. Like a typical good VPN service, Opera promises that its VPN will not keep a log of your online activities & other information that has been routed through its servers.  Opera also says that the test will continue for a while & it is unclear how long this is going to be.
