Google Play Points: rewards for users for downloading & spending in apps – E-Why, What & How

Google Play Points

Recently, Google launched its Google Play Points in the US. So we decided to take a closer look at Play Points.

For all this time, Google has been testing a reward program in South Korea & Japan, whereby they reward loyal users depending on how much they spend & how many apps they use.

Basically, under this plan, users earn points if they purchase subscriptions or buy in-app items. During ‘special events’, often announced by Google, users will be able to increase their reward level up to fourfold. Also, Google will reward users if they download ‘featured’ apps on the Google Play Store.

Play Points, rewarded to users by Google can be exchanged for discounts & in-app items they would otherwise have to pay for, such as in-game tokens or character upgrades. Google, also, allows users to use their points as credits towards items such as digital books, movies or songs.

It’s really a loyalty reward program because the more a user spends the better their rewards get. Users are awarded a status label such as ‘Bronze’ or ‘Platinum’, depending on their spend. At each incremental level the rewards increase. Bronze users earn 1 point for every $1 spent, while Platinum users earn 1.4 points.

The program is free to join, & is available on the Google Play Store dashboard as an easy to discover tab.

Simply click on the Play Point tab to join. Special rewards are currently on offer during Google’s Play Point launch period, which should last until the end of this month. Rewards offered for the launch, are 3 times higher than normal. Google will also be offering weekly prizes to participating members & other incentives to get users to try out new apps & buy new features in-app. To find out more, open Google Play Store to view the current offerings.
