Google I/O: Developers have much more to do for Web, phone & smart homes – News

If you are a developer building for the Web, mobile, or smart home, you would want to have a look at some of the new tools announced by Google at Google I/O (Google io 2019), its developers conference.

Engagement with your apps

Google has announced that Assistant will be getting even “deeper” within the Android apps. Here’s how: Users often turn to the Assistant to ask for help. Which means, they need to be taken to the right spot within your app to help them.

Last year, the Net company had previewed App Actions, a way for Android developers to uses “intents” from the Assistant to deep link to exactly the right spot in your app. At today`s I/O, Google announced the release of built-in intents for 4 App Action categories – Health & Fitness, Finance & Banking, Ridesharing, & Food Ordering. Using these intents, you can integrate with the Assistant in no time.

Help people with their “how to” questions

One more feature announced at the conference. Developers can now add ‘How-to’ markup to Web pages to appear as “rich” result on mobile search & on Google Assistant smart displays. “How-to” questions are those asked by Net surfers – How do I fix my flat tire? & so on.  At I/O, Google introduced support for How-to markup that “lets you power richer & more helpful results in Search and the Assistant.”

You can start seeing How-to markup results on Search today, and your content will become available on the Smart Displays in the coming months.

Interactive Canvas

Google io 2019

A few months ago, Google had brought in “Smart Displays” as a new device category.

Today, it introduced a developer preview of Interactive Canvas which lets them create full-screen experiences that “combine the power of voice, visuals & touch.” Canvas works across Smart Displays & Android phones, & it uses open Web technologies you’re likely already familiar with, like HTML, CSS & Javascript.
