2nd gen Google Assistant can do much more than just switch on lights – e-Why, What & How

2nd gen Google Assistant

Since it’s initial launch in 2016 Google Assistant has come a long way. The voice activated AI powered digital assistant was originally only one-way capable — it couldn’t answer your questions, only act on them.

Now it can hold a conversation with you & even pick up on secondary commands. The term ‘Hey Google’ is almost as entrenched in our vocabulary as the term ‘Google It’. However, there have been complaints that the service is slow. Google has now announced that it has made radical upgrades, which should see user appreciation improve & increase in the adoption rates.

The 2nd gen Google Assistant is, as Google promises, at least 10X faster than its predecessor. Also, it’s now a native app, rather than a Cloud based service, which makes it far more accessible & a lot quicker.  Initially, the new service will only be available on the new Pixel Smartphones (such as Pixel4), but Google maintains that they plan to roll-out its improved Assistant on multiple devices, including smart home speakers & wearables, in the near future.

What this means is that the new capabilities will ensure that the Google Assistant software can answer queries much faster & deal with more complex requests.  The digital assistant has undergone a complete overhaul, & can search across your device, open apps, record all activities on Google services, set time limits on activity data, share what’s on your screen & multitask all at once.

The new Google Assistant, launched at the recent ‘Made by Google’ event demonstrates Google’s commitment to voice activated software, which should show its presence felt on all manner of devices from smart home speakers through phones & watches, to self-driving cars. Much deeper integration into a user’s interactivity with the device is planned for the near future, including instructing the software service to make payments, delete critically sensitive private data, recognize, find & play songs & a whole lot more. It’s seems that Google intends to accomplish much more than merely switching on the lights, with its new improved software.
