google drone company wingGoogle’s parent company Alphabet’s offshoot ‘Wing Aviation LLC’ has become the 1st drone delivery company to receive Air Carrier Certification from the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Air Carrier Certification means that Wing can begin a commercial service delivering goods from local businesses to homes in the United States, said the startup in a blog post on Medium.

For communities across the US, this means goods like medicine or food can now be delivered faster by drone.  Air delivery also provides greater autonomy to those who need assistance with mobility. Google drone company Wing has claimed its all-electric drones “will reduce traffic on our roads & pollution & carbon emissions in our skies.”

“Our next steps will be to further our participation in the UAS IPP in Southwest Virginia. For the next several months, we’ll be reaching out to businesses and community members in the Blacksburg and Christiansburg areas to demonstrate our technology, answer questions, and solicit feedback with the goal of launching a delivery trial later this year.”

Wing has worked for 6 years to build a small, lightweight aircraft & navigational system that can safely deliver small packages on demand to specific destinations in only a few minutes.
