foundationforemailsfoundation

Nowadays most emails are opened in a mobile device & if you’re a company that wants to reach a wide audience with your marketing campaigns you need to write responsive emails. This is where ‘Foundation for Emails’ shines by facilitating the creation of responsive, mobile ready HTML emails that have been tested in all major email clients, even Gmail & Outlook.

It’s not easy to code responsive HTML emails, but the payback for doing it well can be pretty outstanding. As Zurb, the Campbell, California-based product design company behind Foundation, states on the product page:

54% of all emails are opened on a mobile device; therefore you need templates that will be optimized for both desktop and mobile email clients.

75% of Gmail’s 900M users access their accounts via mobile devices.

6x transactional emails can produce over 6 times the revenue than generic marketing emails.

The company offers a product aimed at creating promotional emails, drip campaigns & transactional emails. It comes with 10 responsive HTML templates to get you started, which have been tested on mobile & desktop versions of Outlook, Gmail, Apple Mail & others. Layouts are easy to do by using grids which allow you to design emails the same way you code websites, without the complexity usually involved in coding responsive emails.

The templates included are:

  • Basic
  • Hero
  • Sidebar
  • Sidebar Hero
  • Marketing
  • Newsletter
  • Order
  • Password Reset
  • Welcome

It comes with UI patterns which include buttons, menus, block grids, callouts, typography & thumbnails, as well as visibility & alignment helpers that minimize the amount of coding needed.  CSS is simplified by using ‘Sass’, to allow for customization of the look & feel of your email campaign quickly. The included ‘Inky’ templating language also serves to simplify email markup tables so you can use common web tags like <row> & <columns> to split out multiple table tags.

You can download the CSS version starter kit for free & the Sass version template files here.
