Did you know of Gmail’s delayed email scheduling? e-Why, What & How

Delaying an email to be sent is often convenient & sometimes essential, but until recently, with Gmail, 3rd party extensions like Boomerang had to be installed to effect scheduling. However, since mid-2019, this functionality is now available by default, on Android, iOS & on the Web.

Scheduling emails allows users the freedom of sending mail when it’s most appropriate, particularly if the mail would be more effective if it arrived, say during working hours, for a remote employee, or at the beginning of the working day, for executives who need to plan their daily schedule. Whatever the reason, users are going to find the new functionality very useful.

Google has made it easy to delay sending email. When you draft a new mail, an extra arrow appears beside the send button, & this allows you to schedule sending the mail at any convenient time. Mail scheduled in this manner, is stored in a dedicated folder, so that the timing aspect can be edited if need be. All Gmail scheduling is based on local time zones, so if you need to send your mail to a remote employee who lives in a different country, it’s advisable to base the scheduling on you own time zone, in other words if it needs to arrive at 8:00AM in the morning, but that equates to 2:00PM in your time zone, schedule it for 2:00PM.

The new functionality is available on all Google’s G-Suite additions, & although it can be switched off, it is included, by default. Gmail has a staggering 1.5 billion users, so it’s used by a vast number of business & ordinary people, worldwide, everyday, so any additional functionality that makes people’s lives easier, like delayed email, is bound to be welcomed with open arms.
