‘botlist’ is an app store for bots

botlist

Tis the season of bots, so in keeping with that spirit, here’s 1 more……As we keep spending more & more time doing things on the Web, automating tasks Online is something most of us can really appreciate.  This is the realm of software agents such as bots, of which there are an ever increasing number available. Following in the steps of the Apple Store & the Google Play Store, botlist now categorizes & provides an app store for bots, something that many of us will, no doubt, appreciate.

This is not the first attempt at a store or directory of bots. ‘Botpages’ has been around for a while, & then there are platform-specific directories like Slack’s own, or Kik’s, which we covered on this blog, recently. This particular resource tries to create a central clearing house, much like Botpages does, where bots are organized by platforms (such as Android, email, Facebook Messenger, iPhone, Kik, Slack, SMS,Telegram, or Web) & by categories (such as Analytics, Communication, Customer Support, Design, Developer Tools, File Management, Health, HR, Marketing, Office Management, Payments, Personal, Productivity, Security, Social & Fun, Task Management, or Travel).

There is even a category called ‘Build a Bot’, that features bots that can be used to develop other bots, & an ‘Add Bot’ section that allows you to easily define & upload your own bot to the Botlist App Store. This is a minimum viable product (MVP) Site, so it’s still early days. It does, however, have a lot of functionality & a rather large number of bots on offer.

Botlist is being developed by the Cardiff, Wales, UK-based Marketing Stack Ltd, under the leadership of Ben Tossell, who is also behind Marketing Stack, a curated directory of marketing resources & tools.  In a post elsewhere, Ben has said this was a side project, & still an MVP version, just out of alpha, which they’ve developed in their spare time As such they have some functionality still in the pipeline, like:

  • Trying to figure the best way to add taglines without it looking hella ugly
  • Mobile responsive

They are also aware that there are many other companies competing in this space, but Team botlist is giving it its best shot.
